so, i have been interested in ancient aka koine (i think, i understand this to mean the "common" greek used in the bible) greek for awhile, mostly because i have an interlinear version of the greek scriptures that has the modern english translation next to the original greek with literal word-by-word translations. it really does help expand my comprehension of certain things, and i am also fascinated by the way that learning greek (and latin for that matter) adds new dimensions to the english language as i learn where words come from and what their roots are.
i am proud of us because it's warming up and we still haven't turned the AC back on.
we are holdin' it down and saving our FPL bucks.
i've been sick with a bad asthma/cough/bronchitis/c hest thing and had a 102.2 fever on sunday. it didn't last long, though. i haven't had a fever in years, but i remembered what my mom used to do when i was little and i put ice packs under my arms and on the back of my neck, rubbing alcohol on my forehead and wrists, and took two aspirin. the fever broke about half an hour later while i was eating a bowl of chicken soup.
i never realized fever breaking was so literal like that--like suddenly breaking from chills into a sweat and burning hot, dry skin turning cool and damp, from one minute to the next. isn't the human body cool? not to mention home remedies?
i've actually enjoyed these past couple of days being laid up with this flu or whatever it is. i don't enjoy the actual coughing and breathing difficulty, but i know i'm supposed to be getting rest so i don't feel guilty and restless about staying in one place. i've been laying in bed, drinking coffee and tea, listening to the tinny voice of NPR and NBC 6 on my alarm clock radio, reading the paper, reading up for my mambo project, studying for the book study, reading in the en busca de dios book today about islam so i can have informed conversations with people.
i also got some work done on a couple of grant proposal things.
and katta has been an excellent recovery companion, keeping me company on the bed and hanging out. she is an excellent dog.
also, i have been taking echinachea, olive leaf, vitamin C, and the occasional zinc lozenge and ginger tea.
i'm posting this for myself, and anyone else, to read later... as a community artist working with youth, i feel like this issue often hangs over my work in some ways.
